Duplex & Super Duplex stainless steels
M.E.G.A. S.p.A. manufactures fittings in duplex and super duplex stainless steels, combining high mechanical strength with superior resistance to stress corrosion cracking and pitting.
- F51 (UNS S31803 – Duplex 2205): Provides approximately double the strength of standard austenitic grades, with excellent resistance to localized corrosion.
- F53 (UNS S32750) & F55 (UNS S32760): Super duplex grades delivering even higher strength and outstanding corrosion resistance in highly aggressive offshore and chemical processing environments.
DUPLEX:
F51 (UNS S31803 – Duplex 2205)
- Duplex stainless steel
- Structure: ~50% austenite / ~50% ferrite
- Typical PREN: 34–36
Key features:
- Mechanical strength about 2× compared to 316L
- Excellent resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking
Applications: oil & gas, chemical industry, pressure equipment, piping
Forgings standard: ASTM A182 F51
SUPER DUPLEX:
F53 (UNS S32750 – Super Duplex 2507)
- Super duplex stainless steel
- Typical PREN: 40–42
- Higher resistance to chlorides and marine environments compared to F51
Forgings standard: ASTM A182 F53
F55 (UNS S32760 – Super Duplex)
- Super duplex stainless steel
- Typical PREN: 40–43
- Similar to F53, but with the addition of tungsten (W) and copper (Cu) to furthe
- improve corrosion resistance
Forgings standard: ASTM A182 F55
Super austenitic and high-performance stainless grades
For particularly demanding applications, M.E.G.A. S.p.A. also processes advanced high-alloy stainless steels such as:
- F44 (UNS S31254 – 254 SMO)
Here is the translation into EN-US, maintaining the requested structure:
Classification
Super Austenitic Stainless Steel
- Forging Standard: ASTM A182 F44
- Structure: 100% Austenitic
Main Characteristics
- High Mo content (~6%)
- Nitrogen (N) added to improve mechanical strength
- Typical PREN: 42–45 (very high)
- Excellent resistance to:
- Pitting
- Crevice corrosion
- High-chloride environments
- Good weldability
SANICRO 28 / ALLOY 20
Classification
- Austenitic (Ni-Fe-Cr matrix)
- High Nickel content (~32–38%)
- Contains:
- Chromium (~19–21%)
- Molybdenum (~2–3%)
- Copper (~3–4%) → essential for sulfuric acid resistance
- Niobium (stabilizer against intergranular corrosion)
These materials are specifically engineered for severe corrosive environments involving high chlorides, acids, and elevated temperatures, ensuring long-term reliability and structural integrity.
